When the call came for extras and actors for the CBC made for TV movie “Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story”, an Alsip’s team member answered. Gerry Mawhinney was selected to play Bobby Orr.
“I’ve always been a hockey fan and who doesn’t know Don Cherry?” says Mawhinney. “I mean I got to meet Don Cherry and play one of the greatest hockey players.”

The made-for-television movie chronicles Don Cherry’s journey from farmhand to Canadian icon, will air Sunday, March 28 and Monday, March 29, 2010.
